Season Six Show No.135 Inside Great Lakes Sailing - Paul Goodison, Olympic Gold, Moth World Champion
Show Details
From the beautiful shores of Lake Como, Italy, Inside Great Lakes Sailing had a rare opportunity to chat with one of the best in the sport, England's own Paul Goodison, who is a gold medal winner in a laser, picked up three world championships on a foiling moth, captained any number of world titles on Melges 32's and J70s, but his performance at last year's America's Cup in Barcelona pretty much made the summer for the "news types" like us. Goodison suffered a campaign ending injury by falling into one of the grinder holes on America Magic and suffered a devastating blow to the syndicate's chances when he broke a number of ribs. Hospitalized, Goodison did his best to recover, but never surfaced again during the race, all the while America Magic reported he would be back in the fold the next day, which never materialized. We, through the assistance of Sailing Anarchy, reported Goodison was finished, and the next morning his tweet confirmed our report, but this is really a small blurb on the story, as we spoke with Goodison about his return to the GL-52 fleet this coming summer on Robert Hughes' Heartbreaker and a semi-return to Sail GP's Brazilian entry. The conversation was really insightful and for no other reason to watch, his accent is fabulous. If that wasn't enough, we spoke to ILYA 2024 Sailor of the Year Trey Sheehan, another member of the GL-52 fleet and we conversed with Scott Herman, who operates Spectrum Sailing, an outstanding junior sailing program for youngsters with autism This is certainly a packed show, so sit back, watch the show and tell Duane Burgoyne Happy Birthday on his 71st year.
