Season Six Show No. 136 Inside Great Lakes Sailing - Dave Reed Sailing World Editor, Dawn Riley A3

Show Details

The spring is just about finished, although Mother Nature isn't exactly cooperating, but we thought we'd get a head start on the upcoming sail racing season. We had a great visit this week with Sailing World Editor Dave Reed about next week's Helly Hansen - Sailing World One Design Regatta that will be conducted at our local yacht clubs. There are 113 registered participants, but you should really check out the social scene and the Quantum Weather updates. The event will run May 30-June 1.....and if you didn't know, three decades ago this summer, the first all-female America's Cup crew competed at the sport's highest level and the crew celebrated recently in Oyster Bay, New York and we chatted with two of the crew members, the infamous Dawn Riley, who was the A3 boat skipper and syndicate head and GL-52 Fleet spokeswoman Linda Lindquist, who worked the foredeck in her competitive days. Both sailors chatted about the reunion and hinted about an upcoming documentary film that is being produced about the great female sailors in the last 50 years. And we finish the show with a rather unique look into a sailing program in Chicago geared at young women and your pet dog. The industrious Erica Trejo, who owns and operates Great Lakes Sailing, is offering a STEM sailing course for young women and a class in how to sail with your dog. Check out Inside Great Lakes Sailing this week.
