Season Six Show No. 140 Inside Great Lakes Sailing - 2025 Bayview and CYC's Race to Mackinac Island
Show Details
The tale of two tapes is as unusual as it is different for sail racers trying to negotiate Mother Nature from Port Huron to Chicago. The Bayview Yacht Club's 101st running of the Port Huron to Mackinac Island and the Chicago Yacht Club's Race to Mackinac take center stage this week on Inside Great Lakes Sailing. We explore the start of the Bayview Race from Port Huron and finish on Mackinac Island this past week for the Chicago race discovering that the annual event is really something special. We converse this week with the overall winner of both races in the GL-52 fleet Robert Hughes, of the famed Heartbreaker syndicate, and we stop in with Ken Colpaert, the 70-foot Santa Cruz Trident skipper and talk about losing a crew member overboard. We explore what the definition of a professional sailor might be and we sit with the most amazing crew from Mapcap, who happened to win their class in the CYC race, and oh yes, they're great sailors who happened to be women. Stay tuned.
