About this show The 2025 Great Lakes race season is winding down, and we checked in with the winners of the biennial Trans-Superior Sail Race and the usual season-ending race series sponsored by the Little Traverse Yacht Club, the U-Gotta-Regetta. We tried in vain to consider traveling a bit more this summer, but we have budgets to consider. But what we did do is chat with a resident expert on racing, Wally Cross, to discuss the mental aspects of competition and we journeyed to the Port Huron Yacht Club to discuss sailing and the media and why sailing organizers and administrators could do a better job of promoting a hobby we all love and adore. We chatted with the stellar wordsmith Phoebe Wall Howard, a former Detroit Free Press hack and now a Substack freelance writer, who moonlights for the Detroit News as a columnist. We had a great conversation about the promotion of the sport, and we consider her one of the best in the field of print communications, so we think there might be some valuable insight during her segment, so please stay tuned to see if we're right.
